What Is Cash or Crash?

Cash or Crash is Evolution's live game show with the highest RTP (return to player) of any crash-style game available at UKGC-licensed operators: 99.59% when played with optimal strategy. Launched in June 2021, it uses a ball-drawing machine rather than a climbing multiplier. A drum contains 19 green balls, 8 red balls and 1 gold ball. Green balls advance you up a 20-step prize ladder. A red ball ends the round and you lose your stake. The gold ball gives you a shield against the next red ball and increases payouts on the ladder. After each green ball you make one of three decisions: Continue, Take Half or Take All. It is available at UKGC-licensed operators that carry Evolution live casino content. For licensed sites with strong crash catalogues, see our Best Crash Gambling Sites UK. For a different Evolution crash title, read our Red Baron Review.

How Cash or Crash Works

Place your bet before the round begins. Balls are drawn one at a time from the drum. Each green ball moves you one step up the prize ladder. Each step up increases your potential payout. After each green ball you have a decision window: Continue to risk your full stake for the next step, Take Half to lock in 50% of your current winnings and continue with the other 50%, or Take All to cash out everything and end your round. A red ball drawn while you have no shield ends the round immediately. You lose your stake. The gold ball gives you a shield and triggers a bonus phase where balls continue to be drawn automatically until a red ball is drawn, at which point the shield breaks and the game pauses for your next decision. Reaching the top of the 20-step ladder pays 18,000× in the base game, rising to 50,000× if the gold ball has been drawn.

RTP and Volatility

The 99.59% RTP is the headline figure, but it requires optimal play. Evolution publishes the mathematically correct decision at each step based on remaining balls in the drum. Deviating from optimal strategy lowers your effective RTP. The most conservative approach is cashing out after the first green ball at 1.2×. That is where the 99.59% figure comes from. If you always choose to Continue regardless of odds, your effective RTP drops to around 94.51%. Volatility is high: most rounds end early at low multipliers, with occasional long climbs to significant payouts. This is the best RTP available on any crash-style game at UK licensed operators. For comparison, see our Red Baron Review (97%) and Big Bass Crash Review (95.5%).

RTP is calculated over millions of rounds. Your individual session can vary significantly. Always set a budget before you play.

Strategy Tips

The safest approach is to cash out after the first green ball every round. You collect 1.2× your stake consistently and stay close to the 99.59% RTP. The Take Half option is useful when you have climbed several steps. It locks in partial profit while keeping you in play. Never choose Continue when the ratio of red balls remaining to green balls remaining is working against you. Track the ball counts displayed on screen. Cash or Crash FAQ

What is the RTP of Cash or Crash?+
99.59% when played with optimal strategy. This assumes mathematically correct decisions at each step. If you always choose to Continue regardless of the odds, the effective RTP drops to around 94.51%. The headline 99.59% figure comes from playing conservatively, for example cashing out after the first green ball.
What is the max win in Cash or Crash?+
50,000× your stake when the gold ball has been drawn. The base game maximum without the gold ball is 18,000×.
What are the three decisions in Cash or Crash?+
After each green ball is drawn you choose: Continue (stay fully in), Take Half (lock in 50% of your current winnings and continue with the other 50%), or Take All (cash out everything and end your round).
What does the gold ball do?+
It acts as a shield, protecting you from the next red ball drawn. When the shield breaks after a red ball, the payouts on the ladder increase. The gold ball also triggers a bonus round where decisions are skipped until after the next red ball.
Where can I play Cash or Crash in the UK?+
At UKGC-licensed operators that carry Evolution live casino games, including those listed above.
Is Cash or Crash a crash game?+
It uses crash-style mechanics (a ladder that ends when a red ball is drawn), but the ball-drawing format and three-decision structure make it closer to a live game show than a traditional crash game like Aviator or JetX.
